Welcome to the Quantum Optical Communications Research Lab
We explore the future of quantum communications
We explore the future of quantum communications
The Quantum Optical Communications Research (QORE) Lab is part of the Optical Communications and Photonics Technology group at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), Greece.
The QORE team was established in 2023 by Ass. Prof. George T. Kanellos while it is growing fast with already 1 senior researcher, 2 Post-doctoral researchers and 6 PhD researchers participating/coordinating more than 9 EU/National projects. Specifically, the QORE team serves as the technical coordinator of the National Quantum Communications Infrastructures (QCI) project HellasQCI and CEF SEEWQCI, part of the EUROQCI initiative, and participates in the EU Quantum flagship project QSNP, Horizon Europe HE-ICT-LAIQA, EIC Pathfinder QOSiLICIOUS, EDF ORQESTRA, SNS JU 6G-CATS, while it coordinates a national (HFRI) project, QRONOS.
The QORE lab stands as a trailblazer in the field of quantum communications and networking technologies, specializing in Quantum-Secure communications and networks and the Quantum Internet, where its expertise encompasses dynamic Quantum Network architectures and their optimization. QORE stands at the forefront of integration of Quantum Key Distribution with existing classical communication infrastructures, ensuring coexistence with telecom networks extending to both terrestrial and satellite communication. Key management and robust QKD systems and transmission methods are among QORE key strengths, proposing several innovative approaches on Switched-QKD, Dynamic Entanglement, and Free-Space Optical QKD, reflecting QORE commitment to pushing the boundaries of quantum communication research and technology.
